Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaker. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips with commentary that analyze gender representations in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site for education that examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture was the result of her research. She also serves as the executive director. Destroying stereotypes about women are her primary goals. In addition, Sarkeesian discusses issues of targeted harassment against women online and for other groups which are marginalized. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Apart from being a popular public speaker she has made presentations at TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the University. She was a young woman who wanted to create an online series which would explore gender roles in video games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. In fact, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critic. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women within pop culture narratives.
